Some couples choose Mykonos. Lizzie and Joshua fell in love with it first. Five years before their wedding, they set foot on the island for the first time and kept coming back every summer, until it was clear that the island of the winds had to be their wedding destination. This Mykonos wedding film is the story of that homecoming, filmed at Royal Myconian, and it holds a special place for me: it was my very first destination wedding for a couple from abroad.
A Love Story That Kept Coming Back to Mykonos
Lizzie and Joshua met when Lizzie was a freshman at university, and they’ve been traveling the world together with family and friends ever since. “We love exploring cultures and foods, and Mykonos speaks to our soul. We feel at home here,” Lizzie says. For couples who already love Greece, a destination wedding here can feel less like traveling away and more like coming home.
Getting Ready at Utopia Myconian Collection
The day began at Utopia Myconian Collection, full of fashion and details, including Lizzie’s gifts for her bridesmaids: woven baskets with pom-poms filled with skin-care products and raffia pouches. After a toast with bubbly by the pool, Lizzie slipped into her Berta gown and, escorted by her dad, walked down the aisle to marry Joshua.
A Celebration at Royal Myconian Resort
The reception was at Royal Myconian Resort, and the couple’s priority was clear: enjoy every minute with the friends and family who had traveled across the world to be there. As Lizzie put it, “We wanted everyone to have the best and biggest party possible!” Planning was by NAIDO Weddings, florals by Studio 7, sound and lights by Sound Mykonos, signage and neon by Illuminography, and rentals by Blue Event Rentals. My brother George photographed the wedding while I filmed.
Filming a Mykonos Wedding Full of Energy
Lizzie wanted the dance floor full from the very start and the drinks flowing all night, and the film follows that energy all the way through. It placed 5th for People’s Choice at the Wevsy Greece Awards 2024, and as my first destination wedding for a couple from abroad, it will always be special to me.
